I know I said to some of you that I was going to take a break from Orcas. But I have been craving to do one of my traditional work for awhile now. I don't know what takes the longest, shading on paper, or digital works x_x this took me all day to finish. but I stopped for breaks a lot. =)

Orcas are so easy, being black and white, I used a mixed media for this piece. Pencils, a black colored pencil, and white paint. =) my hand was gray by the time I was done with this. XD

I may make this in to digital someday. but for now, the traditional will have to do. ^_^

I used these for refs: [link] [link] and [link]

ENJOY!

PS: here is the older drawing of my attempt to shade in orcas [link]

Twee, one are one of the people where I stare at their artwork for hours and still not get bored. Just figuring and seeing and finding all of the details and trying to understand how you draw is magnificent, this drawing right here is a masterpeice. It has won my favorite ^ ^

=O hehe... Don't you love it when shading your hand just turns gray? xD
It's SUPER pretty. AND THAT WATER IS AWESOME! o_o How.. Did you draw.. the water... D:
Looking at the picture I'm expecting them to move, and the water that they sprayed out to fall back into the water. Why is nothing happening? o.o

no! D= not at all. XD and if you wash it off, you have to be careful that you don't get the drawing wet afterwords.

thanks so much! :icondragonhug: Hmmm I just created light and dark lines for the shading. as for the splash, I used white acrylic paint and had the paint brush do all the work creating the splashes.

Hahaha I look at it that way too sometimes. As if they were to go under the water and pup back up to the surface. =)

thanks so much!

what I started first, was the front male bull orca and worked my way back. the background came last. And really, you don't need to worry about anatomy when they are at the surface. =)

Welcome! =3

That's usually what I do for group pictures. I start with Ano, and work everyone else in after that. I'm working on the 2nd group pic with my other friends' orcas off and on right now as much as I can (Waiting for refs from some of them)

that's an easy start, with Ano first because he would be the largest of the group. =) (that is what I did with the last drawing of our orcas, I started with Ano. XD)

^-^ That is rather true. Digital art, though it has its benefits, does lack a certain tangibility that traditional mediums will always have.

it does, Digital has that smooth look a lot of the times and.. to be honest, it's a heck of a lot easier then traditional. LOL

Nothing wrong with a Orca drawing frenzy. :D If I recall I went into a semi Tibetan Mastiff drawing frenzy....I might do it again just for thing it now. O3O Traditional is always better, glad I can finally see some more out of you. :3
